Green Bay Packers linked to recently cleared stud cornerback ahead of Week 10

The Green Bay Packers fell to 5-2-1 on the season with their embarrassing loss at home to the Carolina Panthers in Week Nine of the 2025 NFL season. Going into the game, Green Bay was 13.5-point favorites, and many expected them to dominate Carolina in every aspect of the game. Instead, though, the Packers defensive and offensive lines could not stand up to the Panthers, failing to produce much of a pass rush and allowing the Carolina offense to run all over the field.

To make matters worse, Green Bay lost star tight end Tucker Kraft for the season after he tore his ACL. What is more, cornerback Nate Hobbs, who signed a four-year $48 million contract with the Packers during the offseason, will miss at least the next two games due to a sprained MCL.

Injuries are certainly starting to pile up for Green Bay, and depth at a few positions is starting to become a concern.

Even before Hobbs went down with injury, and before it was announced he would be out for at least two weeks, cornerback depth was a concern for Green Bay.

One player that has been often suggested as a possible target for the Packers is former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., who is a free agent.

However, Samuel had a spinal fusion surgery after a neck injury last season and teams did not know if he would ever be able to play again.

That being said, news broke on Monday that Samuel has been cleared to return to football by doctors, and Packers insider Easton Butler of Packer Report states that Green Bay is very interested in setting up a workout:

I can confirm, Green Bay is VERY interested and will plan a workout. https://t.co/e0hVGdsfSW

Samuel, the son of four-time Pro Bowler Asante Samuel, is a former second round NFL Draft pick who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Chargers.

He has six career interceptions and has held opposing quarterbacks to a 59.5% completion percentage when targeting him.
