Lakers vs. Trail Blazers: The matchup

The Lakers get a quick shot at revenge after falling to Portland (122-108) at home exactly a week ago, despite 41 points from Reaves as part of his early-season scoring binge. The fourth-year pro has been a revelation with the Lakers playing down LeBron James and Doncic for a stretch, and he is averaging 31.1 points as the Lakers surge to a 5-2 start. Los Angeles has rallied since that loss to Portland, winning their past three straight, most recently toppling the Miami Heat (130-120) at home on Sunday. Doncic logged a triple-double in that one with 29 poitns, 11 rebounds and 10 assists and Reaves got a double-double with 26 points and 11 assists, but the hot shooting of Jake LaRavia off the bench was a major story as he filled up the stat sheet with 25 points on 10 of 13 shooting, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals.

The Blazers are 4-2 this season and have gone toe-to-toe with some of the NBA’s best teams with victories over the Golden State Warriors (139-119), Lakers and Denver Nuggets (109-107) while logging three straight wins of their own. Jerami Grant sunk free throws with 1.4 seconds left to help beat the Nuggets as 5.5-point underdogs on Friday before getting back-to-back days to rest before Monday’s encore showdown with the Lakers.
