The Dallas Cowboys are having a less-than-ideal start to their season, especially after trading away superstar pass rusher Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers. Dallas' defense, predictably, has struggled with Parsons no longer on the team. The offense is doing its part to keep the Cowboys in games, but the defense has been a serious detriment.
Team owner Jerry Jones has openly discussed the idea of making a trade by the deadline, even floating using the draft picks he received from the Packers in the Parsons trade. They are linked to one team just one day before the trade deadline and hours before their Monday night game against the Arizona Cardinals.
ESPN senior NFL insider Adam Schefter reports that Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson has received "some interest" from teams. One of those teams is the Cowboys.
Adam Schefter reports Cowboys are interested in Bengals LB Logan Wilson
"Another Cincinnati defensive standout whose name has come up as the deadline approaches is linebacker Logan Wilson, who requested to be traded less than two weeks ago.
"Teams that have expressed some interest in Wilson are the Bills, Cowboys and Colts, sources told ESPN. Wilson also is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bears because of a calf injury."
As Schefter mentions, Wilson has requested a trade from the Bengals, one of a couple of players on the team to do so. But Wilson made the request as his role on the defense was reduced, with rookies Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight Jr. getting the bulk of snaps. On Sunday, Wilson was inactive for Cincinnati's game against the Chicago Bears due to a calf injury.
Wilson hasn't received a ton of accolades during his time with the Bengals, but he has played solidly throughout his time with the team, and he is a captain. This season, Wilson recorded 46 tackles, four passes defended, and one fumble recovery in eight games played (seven starts).
Through his six years in Cincinnati, Wilson recorded 541 tackles, 25 passes defended, 19 tackles for loss, 18 quarterback hits, 11 interceptions, six forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries.
If the Cowboys are truly interested in improving their defense, Wilson is a name they should consider. Sure, Trey Hendrickson is the big name on the Bengals, but it's unknown if they would trade him elsewhere. Wilson does fill a need at linebacker, which Jones has called out as an area of weakness after the team's loss to the Denver Broncos last week.
The thing is, the Cowboys seems to have competition in the Buffalo Bills and Indianapolis Colts if they truly want Wilson.
