Well, folks, we have already reached the 2025 NFL trade deadline.
All deals have to be submitted by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, so it's going to be a busy day for teams around the league. There are obvious buyers and obvious sellers, and the New York Jets will almost assuredly be in the latter category.
The Jets are sitting at 1-7 and are buried in the AFC East. The team has several quality veterans who would be of interest to other teams, though, and it would make sense to stockpile assets for the future.
Justin Melo of The Draft Network recently identified five trades he'd like to see happen before the deadline. One of Melo's trades is the Jets sending star running back Breece Hall to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Hall has rushed for 581 yards and two touchdowns so far, and also has 21 catches for 178 yards. The former second-round pick was once thought of as a key piece of the Jets' future, but he's set to test free agency this offseason and the team may prefer to get something rather than lose him for nothing.
Regarding a potential Hall deal, Melo offered the following:
The New York Jets are allegedly leaning toward retaining running back Breece Hall. Hall has garnered trade interest because he's on an expiring contract and the Jets are rebuilding and in contention for the No. 1 overall selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.
The Los Angeles Chargers should test the Jets' reserve. The Chargers have placed three running backs on IR, with Najee Harris, Omarion Hampton, and Hassan Haskins all getting injured. None are expected back anytime soon. Hall should be the Chargers' primary target, but Tony Pollard and Jerome Ford may be more realistic.
As Melo mentioned, Hall is receiving trade interest, but the Jets may be leaning towards keeping the running back. It's possible the team thinks they can re-sign Hall and have him be a key part of the future still.
However, the Chargers could offer the Jets something they can't refuse. The Chargers lost Najee Harris, Omarion Hampton, and Hassan Haskins to injuries, and the team needs to add reinforcements.
Kimani Vidal has had a couple of 100-yard games since taking over, but he came back down to earth in Week 9 with just 30 yards on 12 carries. Hall is also a much better pass-catcher than Vidal and he could be deadly catching passes from Justin Herbert.
