Anton Stach says he harbours ambitions to make the Germany squad for next summer’s World Cup, believing his move to Leeds United has increased that possibility.

Stach has two caps for his country but has not been called up since June 2022. Last month, the midfielder said he was disappointed by the lack of communication with Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann, which has dented his confidence.

“There hasn’t been any communication so far, which I found a bit of a shame,” he told Sky Germany. “Because if there’s no communication at all, then you naturally feel like you’re very, very far away from the team. So you’re not even in the running.”

Since returning from the last international break, Stach put in a poor display against Burnley while battling a rib issue before being dropped from the starting XI for the following two matches.

He nevertheless hopes he can catch the eye of Naglesmann in the remaining months of the campaign. Asked whether his move to United improved his chance of being spotted, Stach told Kicker: "Yes, I really hope so, because the Premier League is a fantastic league.

"You have very, very good opponents. If you prove yourself here and have a good season, that also generates attention. I’ve mentioned several times that returning to the national team is a big goal of mine, as is the 2026 World Cup. Ultimately, you simply have to perform very, very well and consistently on an individual level.”

Daniel Farke knows of this ambition and referenced it when explaining why Stach was signed during the pre-season camp in Germany. “His main topic is to give himself a chance to come close to playing in the World Cup, perhaps,” he said. “And for that, he knows he needs to start games in the Premier League and to perform.”
