Manuel Akanji left Manchester City for Inter Milan late in the summer transfer window.
The Swiss defender has become a regular for the Italians quickly. This season, he’s played eight Serie A games, starting each one. In the Champions League, he’s also played every game for Cristian Chivu’s side.
Akanji starred in Inter’s 2-1 win over Hellas Verona on Sunday. After the tie, he spoke at a press conference.
The Manchester City loanee was asked about his future. He made it clear that he’s looking to convince the Nerazzurri about a permanent move.
He said, via Tuttomercatoweb: “We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. I’m trying to do my best on the pitch, and in the end we’ll see if Inter decides to keep me or not.”
The 30-year-old revealed that Inter are happy about his performances so far.
“The decision is up to them. They seem happy, but we’ll see what happens. There’s nothing right now.”
Gazzetta dello Sport take a further look at the Switzerland international’s comments.
They indicate that Inter have the option to buy Akanji for €15m. This will turn into an obligation, if the Nerazzurri win the Serie A and the defender plays 50 percent of games.
It’s believed that even if this doesn’t happen, Inter will look to sign Akanji permanently from Manchester City.
They are indeed convinced by his performances. The defender’s comments on Sunday are seen as a clear sign that he is keen on staying beyond this season.
