“Always nice” – Liverpool midfielder’s father asked about Real Madrid links

Liverpool host Real Madrid in the Champions League at Anfield later today.

Ahead of this clash, Tuesday’s edition of AS has published an interview with Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister’s father, Carlos.

Over the years, the Liverpool player has been linked to Real Madrid but there weren’t any concrete developments.

That didn’t stop the Spanish newspaper from asking Carlos about reports linking his son to Real Madrid last summer. He’s pleased with these links but insists there weren’t any discussions with the La Liga side.

“I read the rumours, but that’s all they were. There were no contacts. In any case, it’s always nice when my son is linked with the biggest clubs in the world. Real Madrid is a very big club, but so is Liverpool, and we must be responsible and respect the institution he belongs to and that believed in him,” he said.

The newspaper were still curious and pressed the midfielder’s father on whether there was interest from Real Madrid. When responding to that, Mac Allister Sr. said Alexis has to make his own decisions.“I have to be prudent. He plays for Liverpool now. In the future, if the opportunity arises and it’s appropriate, he’ll have to make his own decisions,” Carlos explained.

“That’s what I’ve raised them to be. I have the freedom to give them my opinion, and they have the obligation to do what they think is best.”

The Argentina international’s contract at Anfield lasts until 2028. In December, he publicly expressed his desire to move to the La Liga at some point.

Back in April, the 26-year-old said he’s aware of the reports linking him to the Spanish giants. Alexis had also insisted he’s happy with the Premier League winners.
