Forget Thierno Barry, Jamie Carragher says Everton player is causing a 'big problem' for David…

Jamie Carragher has spotted something that David Moyes must immediately change following Everton’s draw against Sunderland.

It was not the worst result for Everton, on paper, but the start to game promised so much more for those traveling fans on Monday evening.

There will have been a lot that frustrated David Moyes on his return to the Stadium of Light, following such a bright start to the game.

Moyes singled out Thierno Barry’s miss from close range that proved a huge moment in turning the momentum in Sunderland’s favour.

It was a night to forget for the young striker, but it was not just issues going forward that hurt Everton on Wearside.

Jamie Carragher slams James Tarkowski during Everton draw

Last weekend, James Tarkowski singled out Beto following his poor display in the game against Tottenham Hotspur.

This time around, it is the veteran defender who is being highlighted by Carragher after what he did against Sunderland.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher was not impressed by Tarkowski’s positioning for Granit Xhaka’s equalising goal.

“He doesn’t move. For me, Tarkowski has to be at least two or three yards higher just to get out the way of the goalkeeper,” said Carragher.

“He’s just coming out of the six-yard box as it’s coming to Xhaka, but at the last minute, he drops a little deeper again. He wants to be the keeper, he wants to save it. Pickford’s got absolutely no chance.”

Carragher also described this as ‘a big problem’ of Tarkowski’s having also done similar in the opening game of the season against Leeds United.

Tarkowski bemoaned his penalty decision against Leeds at the start of the season, but it is another example of him sitting too deep when Pickford would have dealt with the shot.

Everton issues exposed against Sunderland

Clearly, the biggest issue the Toffees are facing is their lack of quality in front of goal when it comes to their strikers.

Barry missed a huge chance for Everton to double their lead inside the first half, which would have changed the trajectory of the game.

However, what Carragher spotted is also an issue which Tarkowski could benefit the side by eradicating from his game.

The experienced defender has no need to be that deep to the point where he is blocking Pickford and throwing his foot at a shot that would have been saved.

Ally McCoist thinks Tarkowski is so underrated, but this is definitely something that he regularly finds himself guilty of.

Pickford is not usually one to mix his words, perhaps he needs to be more vocal towards the 32-year-old and push him out of his sight.
