Jamie Carragher reiterated the pressure on Everton to sign a striker in the winter transfer window, after Monday’s draw with Sunderland.
Everton drew 1-1 with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on 3 November, with Granit Xhaka’s goal just after the break cancelling out Iliman Ndiaye‘s opener.
The Toffees were ultimately forced to settle for just a point, but it could have, and should have, been a trip back to Merseyside with all three.
Thierno Barry missed a sitter against Sunderland, with the striker inexplicably firing over after Jack Grealish had placed the ball on a plate for the Frenchman.
David Moyes was left hugely frustrated by Barry’s miss, but the moment has only further intensified the pressure on the Scot to find a solution to Everton‘s striking woes.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES
Jamie Carragher states the obvious after draw vs Sunderland
There is nothing new about the situation Moyes finds himself in when it comes to his options going forward.
Beto and Barry have been awful for Everton this season, with both strikers missing chance after chance, week in, week out.
It has become the theme of the Toffees’ season to see Moyes swap the two in every half, never seeing enough from either player to convince the Scot of their place in the next starting line-up.
Carragher told Sky Sports after the game on Monday: “What I’m trying to say is Everton need to find a striker.
“What they’ve got right now is not good enough, and that reason alone could mean that between now and the end of the season, they are looking over their shoulder in terms of staying in the Premier League.
“They’ve got new owners in, obviously a lot better than they’ve had before, but that is the one glaring position that Everton need to fill in January. They have to find somebody.”
But who could Everton realistically sign in the winter?
Who are the options for Everton in January?
Everton have been linked with a move for Gabriel Jesus, who could be available from Arsenal in January after the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres in the summer.
The Brazilian is currently recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury and is expected to return in the new year.
Jesus has had his own problems with finding the net over the years, but scored seven goals in 27 appearances across all competitions last season.
Josh Sargent could be another option for Everton, with the American likely to be keen for a second chance in the Premier League.
The 25-year-old managed just two top-flight goals with Norwich in 2021-22 season, but has developed into a dangerous option since then.
Sargent scored 15 goals in the Championship last season and started the current campaign with five in his first four, but the forward has not scored since amid the Canaries’ woeful form.

Appearances 32
Goals 15
Assists 5
Chances created 24
Successful dribbles 16
Duels won 89
Franculino Dju was linked with a move to Everton in the summer, but a deal for the FC Midtjylland talent never materialised.
The 21-year-old has 17 goals in 24 games of the current campaign and would provide an exciting option for Moyes.
Whoever the Toffees decide to go for, it is becoming increasingly clear that an arrival in January is going to be absolutely crucial to any Everton positivity come May.
