Ben Foster’s Man Utd prediction for Premier League finish is sign of ‘massive progression’ under Ruben Amorim

Ben Foster has now reviewed what kind of team Manchester United are in the Premier League after the first anniversary of Ruben Amorim’s appointment.

Ruben Amorim arrived as Manchester United manager in 2024, and the 40-year-old Portuguese coach has had a tough start to life in the Old Trafford hot seat.

The United head coach took charge of the Premier League club during the 2024-25 season after Erik ten Hag was sacked and could only lead his side to 15th place.

Amorim also fell short of landing his first piece of silverware at the Red Devils last season, with United suffering a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

The former Sporting CP manager had overseen a mixed run of form for the Red Devils in the opening weeks of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

However, United appeared to turn their form around in October and the Red Devils have won three of their last five Premier League matches under Amorim.

Manchester United are eighth in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are only one point adrift from fourth-place Sunderland after 10 matches played.

The Red Devils were on a three-match winning streak in recent weeks after United defeated Sunderland at Old Trafford, Liverpool at Anfield and Brighton at home.

However, Ruben Amorim’s men were able to make it four Premier League wins on the spin after United’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at City Ground.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ben Foster has now suggested that United are unlikely to “finish any higher than [the] top eight” in the Premier League this season.

“A lot of very good recent improvement, but still, I still think they’re a top-eight team in the Premier League,” he said on the ‘Fozcast – The Ben Foster Podcast.’

“I don’t think they’ll finish any higher than [the] top eight. It will be around there, won’t it?”

When it was pointed out that United finishing in the top eight would be better than last season’s outcome, Foster added: “That’s a massive progression, but still Man United, isn’t it?”

United dropped valuable points to Nottingham Forest at the weekend, despite leading the Premier League contest in the first half thanks to Casemiro’s header.

Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona both netted for Forest in the first five minutes of the second half before Amad Diallo snatched a late equaliser for United.

Foster was baffled at the controversial decision that was made to award United a corner against Forest, which subsequently led to Casemiro’s first-half opener.

“But for Man United, like fair play to Forest, they needed to get something from this game as well,” he continued.

“1-0 down, bringing it back to 2-1. The goal United scored as well, by the way.

“Didn’t even go out for a corner. It did not even go out for a corner.”

Spurs will now host United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday afternoon for the Red Devils’ final match before the November international break.
