Will Steelers Make A Move Before Trade Deadline?

Will the Steelers make a move before the trade deadline?

The trade deadline is nearly here, and the Steelers are one of many teams around which there is considerable speculation. They have, of course, already made one trade last week, acquiring S Kyle Dugger, who already started on Sunday. There are other areas of the team they could look to address, however, with wide receiver a perennial consideration.

Pittsburgh is, of course, never open about specifics when it comes to their dealings. They will allow for generalities, particularly GM Omar Khan, basically saying they will make any deal that helps the team. Last year, the Steelers made two moves at the trade deadline, though neither helped much. WR Mike Williams caught the game-winning touchdown in his debut, but otherwise did little. Likewise for OLB Preston Smith.

Arguably, Dugger has already done more, but will the Steelers make another trade before the deadline? When it comes to wide receivers, they are reportedly signing Aaron Rodgers favorite Marquez Valdes-Scantling. It seems the initial move is to add him to the practice squad, but it’s not clear if that’s procedural.

This is a team that is presumably all in on 2025, especially after a big win over the Colts. The Steelers have already played every game there is to play before the trade deadline, though. Whatever team they are right now, that is the team upon which they must judge the value of this season.

My guess is they are still of the belief that they can win it all. They know their offense is good enough, with a capable run game and a savvy veteran in Aaron Rodgers under center. They’re not always at their best—but nobody is. The Steelers also have little choice but to believe in a defense in which they have invested substantial resources, including trade. Not just Dugger recently, but Jalen Ramsey going back to the offseason.

We won’t have to wait long for our answers, of course. The Steelers either will or will not make a move ahead of the trade deadline today. Will WR Jakobi Meyers find his way to Pittsburgh, or are they content with MVS? Is there another move that they might make, perhaps even ta a position of surprise?

After another disappointing season and months of retooling, the Steelers are set to try it all again in 2025. Though they limped into the playoffs, they once again embarrassed themselves therein.

Just like last year, the biggest question hanging over the Steelers isthe quarterback question. They settled in on Aaron Rodgers, but we still have a lot to learn about him. The2025 NFL Draft class could play a big role, but veteran additions like Jalen Ramsey will be paramount.

Now we are in the regular season. From Rodgers to George Pickens to Minkah Fitzpatrick and Ramsey, we’ve seen the Steelers make some big changes. Now it’s about evaluating the roster in place and figuring out how it all works out.
