November 4 – The newest franchise in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), the Denver Summit, are literally going the extra mile when they make their home debut next season at Empower Field at Mile High.

On March 28, the venue that is usually home to the NFL’s Denver Broncos, will echo to the sounds of a different kind of football, and the Summit is hoping to sell every single seat in the 76,000-capacity stadium to shatter the previous record attendance for an NWSL game.

This isn’t a fanciful dream either. When NWSL teams have played one-off matches in big stadiums, fans show up. The San Diego Wave draws over 30,000 at Snapdragon. Bay FC saw more than 40,000 supporters at Oracle Park, a number that broke the league’s single-game attendance record earlier in the year. Meanwhile, Angel City FC, despite fielding a team that consistently loses, sells out BMO Stadium on a regular basis.

In Denver, the enthusiasm surrounding the Summit is palpable, with the club already receiving more than 15,000 season ticket deposits, which is the most ever for an expansion side.

“We wanted to bring this club into Denver’s most iconic venue,” said Summit FC President Jen Millet. “The community’s rallied around us from the start—we want everyone to be part of this moment, so we want to make sure that we can welcome everybody in when we host our first match in March.”

The club will play at the home of the Broncos until their new temporary home stadium is completed. The Summit also announced plans to build a new 14,500-capacity permanent home, which is expected to open in 2028. It’s hoped the temporary venue will be ready for the team’s second game but if not, additional matches could be played at Mile High or elsewhere, with Dick’s Sporting Goods Park (home of the Colorado Rapids in MLS) another possibility.

“If we have more matches very early in the season, that could be challenging, but if it’s spread out a little bit, then we might not need to play anywhere else,” Millet said. “We’re awaiting more information on that.”
