Trent Alexander-Arnold has delivered a touching, straightforward message about his return to Liverpool for Tuesday evening's Champions League encounter with Real Madrid. The defender could come face-to-face with the Reds for the first time since his departure this evening (Tuesday).
The 27-year-old sealed his switch from Liverpool to Real Madrid last summer when his Anfield contract expired. The Reds pocketed a transfer fee as Real stumped up to finalise the deal ahead of the summer's Club World Cup.
Rumours surrounding Alexander-Arnold's future swirled throughout his final campaign at the club, during which he contributed to the team's Premier League triumph. Just days following the announcement of his departure in May, he was met with jeers when he entered the field as a second-half replacement against Arsenal.
He received a warmer welcome when Liverpool celebrated their Premier League success against Crystal Palace later that month in what proved to be his farewell appearance for the club. It's anticipated that the greeting he gets upon his homecoming might be more hostile.
Prior to the match, Alexander-Arnold has expressed his emotions with a single-word message on his Instagram story. The defender has shared an image of himself touching down in England with Real and included the caption: "Home" accompanied by a location pin emoji, reports the Liverpool Echo.

"Whichever way I'm received is the decision of the fans. I'll always love the club, I'll always be a fan of the club," he said before the match.
"I'll always be thankful for the opportunities and the things we achieved together, they'll live with me forever.
"No matter what, my feelings won't change towards Liverpool. I've got memories there that will last me a lifetime, and no matter how I'm received, that won't change.
"It's mixed emotions. It will be a very, very difficult game, but one that I'm excited for. A huge game and a huge stage to go and try to perform.
