Boston Celtics star rips officials after controversial loss to Jazz

BOSTON — Jaylen Brown ripped officials Monday night after a controversial no-call in the Celtics 105-103 loss to the Jazz at TD Garden.

The All-Star was attempting to isolate on Jazz guard Keyonte George with 47 seconds remaining in regulation and Boston clinging to a 102-101 lead. George slipped while trying to defend Brown at the top of the key and appeared to trip Brown as the Celtics star attempted to dribble past the Jazz guard. Officials did not call a foul on the play, and Utah took advantage with Walter Clayton Jr. collecting the loose ball from Brown and finding Lauri Markkanen for the go-ahead basket with 44 seconds remaining on the fast break.

Brown did not hold back when asked about the sequence after the loss.

“Man, y’all going to get fined because you can’t have a mistake like that as an official at that point in the game,” Brown said. “It’s fourth quarter. There’s a minute left in the game or less. And you completely -- the whole staff blows the ******* call, you know what I mean? It cost us the game. Unacceptable.

“You can make mistakes at any point of the game, but right there, that wasn’t good. That wasn’t good. That was unacceptable. And then they’re telling me like, ‘Aw, we didn’t see it.’ How did none of you see it? You can’t trip somebody in the fourth quarter and then just be a no call. It’s some bull****.”

Boston was able to tie the game on the ensuing possession as Neemias Queta split a pair of free throws but the Jazz were able to hold for the final shot of regulation. Jusuf Nurkic hit the game-winner with 0.6 seconds remaining on a putback after a George miss to escape with the 105-103 win.

Brown finished with a game-high 36 points in the loss for Boston, who have now dropped two straight games and are 3-5 overall on the season.
