Marvin Harrison Jr. has issued a defiant response after the sophomore receiver made his play look effortless against the Dallas Cowboys in the wake of his legendary father's pointed comments about the Arizona Cardinals' offense.

The 23-year-old racked up 885 yards for eight touchdowns in his rookie year, with the universal expectation that he would exceed those numbers in Year 2. However, up until the 27-17 Monday Night Football win over the Cowboys, Harrison Jr. and the Cardinals had struggled, particularly on offense.

The Cardinals were 2-5, with franchise quarterback Kyler Murray remaining on the sidelines, casting doubt over the 28-year-old's future ahead of the looming trade deadline. Veteran Jacoby Brissett stepped up in Murray's absence, clicking with the offense at the right time to heap misery on the Cowboys, who lost 44-24 to the Denver Broncos last week.

Harrison Jr. racked up 96 receiving yards for one touchdown in the win over the Cowboys, including a quick, eye-catching duke, silencing his critics and proving his legendary father's Cardinals assessment wrong hours after the Hall of Famer's comments.

Harrison Sr. publicly said Arizona's offense was "very hard" to watch before his son and the Cardinals put on a show.

"Yeah, I think everyone has their own opinions, and you know, I think the biggest thing is, you know," Harrison Jr. said after the game in his press conference. "Any time someone speaks on something, you just don't want it to be directly from the player.

"So just everyone has their own opinions, and you know, I think in his article, you know. He said that's how he feels, not how I feel.

"So I think that's good to mention because you know, I trust in all the guys I know, everyone works really hard throughout the week to be successful not only for me individually but as a team. So I think you know, I just try to do my part, you know, be accountable on my end. You know, do my best to help the team."

Despite Brissett scoring three total touchdowns (2 passing, 1 rushing), Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon says the 32-year-old will remain a backup. "Nothing's changed on that," Gannon said.

Brissett is undeterred by Gannon's comments - he's focused on taking his chance. "I don't get into that stuff, man," Brissett said. "I'm just trying to go out here and win games, be a good teammate, and do the best that I can when I get my opportunity. That's all I can ask for."

"I don't think it's me. I really don't," Brissett continued. "I think it's just everybody gets caught up in the beginning of the season."

"And the good teams in this league find ways to continue to get better, and that's what we're doing at this point in the season, is just finding ways to continue to get better. You tweak things, you go back to the drawing board," he added.

"We're going to go back after this game and say we should have did this better, that better, that better. And I think that's what we're doing a good job [of].

"And like I said, I really don't think it's me. I just think it's over the time and through the season, I think we'll continue to get better."
