Mixed news for the Newcastle United pair ahead of the upcoming international break.

Both Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton were called up to Brazil’s previous camp, where they travelled to Asia for friendlies in South Korea and Japan last month.

Guimaraes started both matches, providing an assist in each, while Joelinton was left on the bench for the South Korea friendly before playing the remaining half-hour against Japan.

It came after the pair endured a brutal journey to the Far East when their flight from Amsterdam had to turn back around due to a reported broken window on board. That resulted in a journey time of over 30 hours.

Joelinton blow as NUFC midfielder left out of Brazil squad

Guimaraes has kept his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, however, Joelinton has seen his spot taken by former Liverpool midfielder Fabinho in what is his first call-up in three years.

Joelinton’s omission from the national team comes at a time when his form for Newcastle has been questioned after he was hooked at half-time during the recent defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion.

That said, the Magpies, as a team, have struggled for consistency this season, with Sunday’s 3-1 defeat away to West Ham United leaving them 13th in the Premier League table after 10 matches.

Bruno Guimaraes to avoid brutal travel schedule

Brazil face Senegal on November 15 before playing Tunisia three days later on November 18.

Fortunately for Guimaraes, he has a far less challenging travel schedule to contend, with the match against Senegal taking place at Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium before taking the relatively short flight to Lille to face Tunisia.

Speaking about Guimaraes and Joelinton’s international commitments recently, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said: “I just think the rewards for them are so big. The players love playing for their country, so I don't think that they look at that as a negative.

“They look at that as a prize really. Yes, there's a consequence, they have to travel a long way, but I think you ask any football fan, if they were given that opportunity, they'd jump at it, so I don't see it as a negative.

“I see it as, ‘yes, we have to look after them then the other way’, so we have to understand what they've been through and try and make the right decisions.

“We don't want to run into trouble with them physically or mentally. I think we'll have conversations with all the players and try and make the right calls, then decide what games we involve them in and if we can ever give them a rest.”
