Free agent returns to England as Leeds United link resurfaces – He would bring something…

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Leeds United

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the names linked with Leeds United in the summer transfer window. The Whites however, decided on other targets to recruit to the team.

The club spent around £100million before this season, with the aim of building a team good enough to survive the Premier League. Leeds recruited quality players in major areas of the squad, but not the attack.

It infuriated the fans that there was not a lot of investment up top, and the lack of quality has shown on the pitch this season. The Whites are the fifth worst team in the Premier League when it comes to converting shot quality.

And it cost them dearly during the last stretch of games before this international break. Daniel Farke even pointed out that the team need to do better in both boxes, but that still remains a problem.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain spotted training amidst Leeds United links

The Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Leeds United rumours do not seem to be going away anytime soon with the latest news this week. According to reports, the England midfielder is training with his old club Arsenal.

He was released from his Besiktas deal in August and is looking for a new club. The 32-year old is currently training with the Arsenal U21 side, with Mikel Arteta speaking about how the midfielder’s presence at the training ground is great for the youngsters at the club.

Oxlade-Chamberlain spent just two seasons in Turkey after leaving Liverpool in 2023.

Is the former Liverpool star what the club needs now?

He would come in with a lot of Premier League experience – 235 appearances in the competition. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has a different profile from the current midfielders at the club.

The 32-year old is more of a dynamic ball carrier, who can make things happen in attack. Leeds’ current midfield options excel in build up and possession, or defensively. Not all of them have the attacking instincts of the former Liverpool star.

Sadly, at this point of his career he might not be the best option for Daniel Farke’s side. He never hit the heights expected in Turkey; where he managed just five league goals in 38 appearances.

If Leeds and Farke are looking for options to bolster the midfield in January, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should not be a priority. His age, injury record and past few seasons have shown that he might not be cut out for the top level anymore.
