Patrick Bamford mocks Junior Firpo as former Leeds United hero posts Marcelo Bielsa picture

Patrick Bamford and Junior Firpo no longer play for Leeds, but the pair keep in touch on social media.

Firpo is now with Real Betis as Bamford trains at Coventry to rebuild his fitness, having made 62 appearances alongside the England international at Elland Road.

Marcelo Bielsa gave the duo a chance to play for Leeds in the Premier League, and the Dominican Republic international has now posted a tribute of sorts to the Argentine on Instagram.

Junior Firpo acknowledges Marcelo Bielsa reunion as Patrick Bamford aims dig

The Real Betis No.23 reunited with Bielsa in October when his Uruguay side recorded a 1-0 friendly win over the Dominican Republic.

It was such an impactful moment for Firpo, he even included an image of himself hugging the South American on Instagram on Monday, weeks after the game.

It was part of a bunch of other photos from his past month – often called a photo dump – one of which included a questionable outfit.

Bamford was quick to pounce on that particular image, writing a mocking comment which read: “Chef’s outfit with sunglasses 👀”

There were more connections to his former club on display, as another image showed Firpo playing a game with his children, and his son can be seen wearing a Leeds shirt.

Clearly, the 29-year-old still carries Leeds close to his heart in many ways.

Junior Firpo was devastated to see Marcelo Bielsa depart Leeds

It is no surprise the defender posted an image of himself reuniting with El Loco on Instagram, as he seemed especially moved by his sacking in February 2022.

Firpo spoke highly of Bielsa and told El Observador: “It was one of the toughest goodbyes to a coach I’ve ever experienced…It was like when you know something’s going to go down, but you’d rather let it go down with him than save it with someone else, that was that feeling.”

It speaks volumes that the left-back felt so strong about the 70-year-old despite only making 20 appearances under his tutelage, but that just goes to show how impactful a manager Bielsa really was.
