Georginio Rutter Leeds United
Georginio Rutter was the latest former Leeds United player to face his old club over the last couple of weeks. The Whites have been reunited with some old faces in their last few fixtures.
Leeds have faced Tyler Adams, Connor Roberts and Crysencio Summerville in the space of four weeks. However, none of these players were universally loved by Leeds fans during his spell at Elland Road like Rutter.

Brighton ran out 3-0 winners against Leeds United this past weekend, with Rutter playing a key role in downing his former side. Daniel Farke’s side failed to capitalise on their huge win over West Ham over a week ago.
The Whites are now in 16th place in the Premier League, with just four points between them and the relegation zone.
Georginio Rutter on not celebrating against Leeds United
In the loss to Brighton Georginio Rutter did not get on the scoresheet, but he could be seen doing his best not to celebrate any of the goals against his former club.
After the game, he explained his decision not to celebrate: ”I didn’t want to celebrate, because it’s me, you know. I’m not loyal, but it’s more like I didn’t want to celebrate.”
Rutter was signed for a record fee the last time the Whites were in the Premier League. It took a while for him to get up and running, but he produced an elite season in the Championship in 2023/24 – seven goals and 15 assists in the league.
Leeds would kill to have a player capable of that in their squad for this season. The Whites have lacked a player with that cutting edge and creative spark, failing to address that in the summer window.
Georginio Rutter then added that he still has a place in his heart for Leeds fans: “So I was very happy to see them today, and I hope for them they’re going to stay up in the Premier League.
“They have the quality to stay, so I wish them good luck for this season.
“I see everybody before and after the game. It was a bit strange, you know. I don’t want to lie, but it’s football.
“Yeah, like I say, when I feel the pitch and I see the fans, obviously, I remember the good thing I had with them, so it was very special today.”
Could the former Leeds man make a return?
Just from his comments this past weekend, you can tell Rutter still has a huge connection to the club. And he has deserved it, he did not start his career off well but some fans backed him till he came good in his final season.
It is telling that a player who spent just two years in West Yorkshire can have such a relationship with the club. Maybe in the future, when Leeds have stabilised as a club in the top flight, a move for the Frenchman could be possible.
But for now, the club and Daniel Farke are focused on securing survival.
