Eagles keep dealing with 3 trades in 6 days — and Howie Roseman may not be done yet

Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has made three trades in six days, adding depth at cornerback and edge rusher with the acquisitions of cornerback Jaire Alexander, slot cornerback Michael Carter II and pass rusher Jaelan Phillips.

Roseman could make a few more moves before the NFL trade deadline at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Eagles acquired Carter last Wednesday from the New York Jets, Alexander on Saturday night from the Baltimore Ravens and Phillips on Monday morning from the Miami Dolphins.

Phillips, a 26-year-old pass rusher, will be the Eagles’ biggest midseason acquisition. The trade cost the team a 2026 third-round pick: That is a hefty price tag for an injury-prone player who tore his Achilles tendon in 2023 and his ACL in 2024. The fifth-year edge rusher has finished with three sacks in nine games this season.

Roseman is unlikely to trade premium picks to get another deal done, but he could trade more Day 3 picks for depth pieces or young developmental players. He could also trade away a few players from Philadelphia’s 53-man roster to make room for Nolan Smith and Jakorian Bennett.

Roseman’s moves could prove instrumental if the Eagles make another Super Bowl run. He already addressed Philadelphia’s glaring weaknesses at cornerback and edge rusher — so what could come next?

Trading cut candidates

Roseman could trim down the cornerback position which will have eight players after Bennett’s return from injury. One of Adoree’ Jackson or Kelee Ringo could be on his way out, as the additions of Carter and Alexander have made them expendable.

As the fourth option in the running back rotation, AJ Dillon could be dealt for a late-round pick. Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley are the top backups behind Saquon Barkley.

Building up depth

Outside of edge rusher and cornerback, the Eagles still have depth concerns. The offense needs a better blocking tight end, with Grant Calcaterra struggling in that area. An experienced backup offensive lineman could help strengthen the interior offensive line with left guard Landon Dickerson and center Cam Jurgens dealing with injuries this season.

The defense could use another safety to back up Drew Mukuba and an additional defensive tackle to fill out the rotation.

Trading for young talent

Raiders offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson and Titans defensive tackle T’Vondre Sweat both could benefit from a fresh start. Despite strong rookie seasons last year, the second-year players are being shopped, according to reports from The Athletic and Sports Illustrated.

Roseman could possibly target young players like Sweat and Powers-Johnson to fill future holes (the Eagles have not been connected to these players in trade rumors).
