Sacks Are Coming From Everywhere

Three sacks past two games.

The Bucs defense has really stepped up the past couple of games. Joe could argue this all started back when the Bucs played the 49ers.

The Bucs beat the 49ers in The Licht House 30-19. That day the Bucs had six (!) sacks. In fact, in the past three games, wins over the 49ers and slimy Saints and a loss at the Lions, the Bucs have totaled 15 sacks.

Anthony Nelson is has three sacks in those games, tied for the Bucs’ lead over the past few games, one against Detroit and two against the slimy Saints. YaYa Diaby also has three.

Those 15 sacks came from 11 different players. Yesterday, speaking from One Buc Palace, Bucs outside linebacker YaYa Diaby said that’s a good thing.

“It helps a lot,” YaYa said about the diversity of Bucs defenders putting quarterbacks on their tails. “Just for the opponent, not knowing where the sacks are coming from, that helps.

“We’re not being one-dimensional. And that’s what Coach [Todd] Bowles is does a really good job at. Bringing guys [from different spots]. Sometimes he’ll let us rush, but then sometimes he’ll bring some blitzes, just to give different looks.”

In other words, Bowles keeps offenses guessing.

Joe is curious to see if Nelson can continue his hot start. Usually, physical teams take Nelson out. Joe is confident that’s why Nelson is often a backup. But Joe believes in playing a hot hand. And no Bucs defender is hotter now attacking the quarterback..
