Roberto Firmino: “I’m a fan of Vinícius — I love him as a footballer”

Former Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has spoken glowingly about Vinícius Jr. in an interview with _Marca_, praising both the Real Madrid star’s footballing ability and his character off the pitch.

When asked to choose between Liverpool’s Luis Díaz and Vinícius Jr., Firmino didn’t hesitate:

> “It’s very difficult to choose so simply (between Luis Díaz and Vinícius). But… Vini!”

The Brazilian, who shared dressing rooms with Vinícius during national team call-ups, emphasized his admiration for the 25-year-old:

> “Vinicius is a great player. I had the opportunity to be with him on the national team and play against Real Madrid. Personally, he’s a really good guy.”

Firmino also addressed the intense scrutiny and occasional hostility Vinícius faces in Spanish stadiums, drawing a line between sporting rivalry and unacceptable abuse:

> “I think it’s normal for opposing fans to put pressure on him, but what I don’t like is when there is racism.”

The ex-Liverpool striker offered words of advice and support to his compatriot:

> “If I were him, I’d try not to listen too much to what’s being said outside the stadium. I’d try to focus on football regardless of what people say. I wish him all the best. I’m a fan of Vini, and I love him as a footballer.”
