There are still nine games left, but it sure feels like the Dallas Cowboys' season is over. However, that has not dissuaded Jerry Jones from putting the pedal to the metal before Tuesday's trade deadline. He might be driving a station wagon relative to a corvette, but beggars can't be choosers.
No more than 12 hours after the Cowboys fell to the Arizona Cardinals in primetime, Jones secured a trade for Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson.
The Cowboys will reportedly send a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Bengals, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. In a vacuum, this is a really solid move for Dallas, which has arguably had the worst linebacker play in the NFL over the first nine weeks.

Wilson had requested a trade out of Cincinnati after he was benched by defensive coordinator Al Golden. The Bengals' defense is arguably worse than the Cowboys' this season, so it says a lot that Wilson couldn't find his way onto the field. Maybe it was a matter of Golden wanting to get younger players on the field, but either way, Cowboys fans should temper expectations.
Still, Wilson is a notable upgrade over Kenneth Murray and Shemar James. It stands to reason that Wilson will slot in as the starter next to Murray. It doesn't seem that Dallas realizes that Murray is a major detriment to the defense, and as coaches have praised his leadership at every turn.
A fifth-round rookie, James has shown flashes, but he's clearly not ready to be playing as much as he has. Much to fans' chagrin, Matt Eberflus refuses to play second-year man Marist Liufau.
It will be interesting to see what the rotation looks like once DeMarvion Overshown is back on the field. He's expected to return immediately following the bye. A starting duo of Overshown and Wilson would actually move the needle.
Cowboys fans would feel a lot better about the trade if the team didn't get utterly dominated at home by the Cardinals, who came in riding a five-game losing streak. But this is still a nice piece of business by the front office.
