Rob Edwards has been linked to the vacant manager position at relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League - and while some fans in the Teesside Live comments section wish he has been more forceful in denying his interest, many say they don't want to see him leave now.
Wolves have endured a dreadful start to the season, with 2 points from a possible 30, and have sacked their Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira. The club were in advanced talks with the coach that Pereira replaced, ex-Bournemouth boss and Boro player Gary O'Neil, but he has pulled out.
Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards is on their shortlist, having led his club to a strong start in the Championship so far this season. Edwards began his coaching career at the Midlands club, and made over 100 appearances for them as a player.
Asked about the links, Edwards said: “It’s speculation stuff, so it's hard for me to comment on anything other than Middlesbrough Football Club, which is where my focus is. We’ve done a decent job so far, all I care about is trying to win tomorrow."
Some fans wanted to see an outright denial from Edwards. Reader Lawro79 says: "I'm really disappointed in Rob Edwards today. He gave a politician-style answer. He could have said categorically no, and put it to bed."
Commenter The Don agrees: "Predicted this last week. He never said 'no' and put it to bed in the press conference. Should have just said he is not going, but he never did."
Others say there's no way it would be a good career move for Edwards. Smogonthetyne says: "Why should he say 'I'm not interested' in a job he hasn't been offered? This lad is no mug, and when he does privately consider things, which is normal he knows Wolves are going down so why would he disrupt what he is building here?
"Fans love him... mostly a winning team with more to come... legendary status if he manages to get us up... no brainer."
Redben writes: "What else was he supposed to say about a job he hasn't been offered? He's committed to the Boro, and preparing for tomorrow night. Good enough for me. End of. Three points please."
Feetonground says: "He has said more to quash this than Wilder ever did! Given our start, speculation is only to be expected."
Bringmesunshine adds: "I don’t think there’s any substance to this at all. Rob Edwards is happy where he is - and why wouldn’t he be? It’s a great club with great potential."
Andyborofan asks: "So Rob - would you like another relegation on your CV with Wolves, or a possible second promotion to the Premier League with the Boro?"
