Jacksonville Jaguars Trade for $33 Million Receiver

Last year, Liam Coen was the offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who had two star receivers. Coen’s Bucs had the NFL’s fourth-highest scoring offense. Now, Coen, the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, leads the NFL’s 21st-highest-scoring offense. But they’re getting Trevor Lawrence some help.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to trade wide receiver Jakobi Meyers to the Jaguars. The Jags are sending a fourth and sixth-round pick to Vegas in exchange for the 28-year-old who’s playing on an expiring contract.

Meyers had previously requested a trade from the Raiders before the season kicked off. He recently reiterated his desire to get dealt. Now he gets his wish, and he may have foreshadowed the move on Sunday when the Raiders and Jaguars faced off.

Meyers gives the Jaguars a very formidable receiving corps led by first-round picks Travis Hunter and Brian Thomas Jr. He’s coming off a career year in which he recorded 87 receptions for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns.

He’s recorded 33 receptions for 352 yards through seven games in Vegas this season. Meyers may not see the same opportunities with the Jaguars, but he’s also going from a 2-6 Raiders team to a 5-3 Jaguars squad that is in play for the postseason.

Signed to a three-year, $33 million contract in 2023, Meyers more than lived up to expectations, but now he’ll be campaigning to earn even more on his next deal.
