Gary Neville has played down claims suggesting Mohamed Salah's 'legs might have gone' after the Egyptian winger's slow start to the season. Arne Slot's side have endured a difficult beginning to life after their Premier League title win during the 2024/2025 campaign.
Liverpool started strongly - winning their first five league matches - but momentum then quickly shifted as they went on to lose the next four in a row. New signings such as Florian Wirtz have yet to fully adapt to Premier League football, unlike Hugo Ekitike, while dependable figures like Salah have struggled to find their best form since August.
With speculation surrounding his future and questions over whether he can maintain his high standards, at 33, Salah's performance against Aston Villa appeared to mark a turning point.

Speaking on The Overlap and Betfair's Stick to Cricket show, Neville insisted Salah still has plenty to offer.
He said: "Mo Salah is starting to be more efficient, but he has lost a little bit of how he used to be.
"Liverpool have dipped a bit, I think they'll be alright because I think Salah and Van Dijk at some point will click.
"I think they've got a spine of players that I think will click.
"Salah's not kicked a ball yet, really, for them, when he starts to go, things will click.
"I keep hearing that Salah's legs might have gone. Cristiano Ronaldo's still scoring goals even though he's older, so I think what Salah's starting to do is be more efficient. He's starting to sort of hang around that area where he scores, but he's lost a little bit."

Last season - one which began with uncertainty over whether Salah would sign a new contract - the forward produced the second-highest goal tally of his career, quashing doubts about his longevity.
Salah will hope to carry his positive performance on the weekend through to tonight when Liverpool play Real Madrid in the Champions League in what is set to be a fiery game.
