One day removed from being linked to one another, the Sacramento Kings have reached an agreement with free agent center Precious Achiuwa, a veteran big man who most recently played for the New York Knicks during the 2024-25 season.
ESPN’s Shams Charania was the first to report the agreement between Sacramento and Achiuwa. To make room for Achiuwa on the roster, the Kings have waived second-year forward Isaac Jones.
Achiuwa, 26, has been a solid rebounder throughout his five-year career, which aligns with the Kings’ interests.
Sacramento enters play on Monday ranked dead last among all NBA teams in rebounds per game as it navigates the opening month without starting forward Keegan Murray (wrist surgery recovery).

More on new Kings center Precious Achiuwa
Precious Achiuwa, the 20th overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, averaged 6.3 rebounds per game over two seasons with the Knicks (2023-25). The Memphis product was on a training camp deal with Miami before being waived on October 18th.
For a team that is currently searching for upside in the frontcourt, adding Precious Achiuwa is a low-risk move for Sacramento. Domantas Sabonis (13.6 rebounds per game) needs help on the glass, as Westbrook’s 4.8 boards per game come in at second on the Kings’ rebounding leaderboard.
Losing Isaac Jones stings for several reasons, but none more significant than the fact that Jones was well-liked by both the locker room and the fan base. Of course, this is the nature of the business, and it’s clear that Sacramento is prioritizing the player who can help the Kings sooner rather than later.
Precious Achiuwa brings Sacramento a physical presence in the front court and a player who can help take some of the rebounding load off Sabonis’ plate.
The Kings are currently off to a 2-5 start to the season, which will only get more challenging in the week ahead as they begin a brutal homestand against the Golden State Warriors, Oklahoma City Thunder, Minnesota Timberwolves, Denver Nuggets, and Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night at Golden 1 Center.
Adding Achiuwa doesn’t solve all of Sacramento’s frontcourt problems, but it’s an attempt from general manager Scott Perry to plug some holes as they await Murray’s return.

Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant is making headlines for the wrong reasons once again, causing many around the NBA to wonder if a trade could be in the works sooner than later.
Morant, who was suspended for one game this week due to conduct detrimental to the team, was temporarily sidelined due to a postgame exchange with the Grizzlies’ first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo following Friday’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the back-and-forth exchange happened in front of the rest of the team. Morant sat out of Memphis’ 117-104 loss to the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night.
Following the news that Memphis would be suspending Ja Morant for one game, Charania reported that tension had been building between the All-Star guard and Iisalo from the start of the season, adding that teams around the league are monitoring the situation in case the Grizzlies decide to part ways.
This isn’t the first time that Ja Morant has made headlines with negative context. During the 2022-23 season, Morant was suspended for eight games after showing a firearm while on an Instagram Live stream at a nightclub.
Later that year, in May 2023, Morant was suspended for 25 games (to start the 2023-24 season) after another video surfaced of Morant posing with a firearm in a car during another Instagram Live feed. Upon his return, Morant was subject to fines from the NBA after making finger-gun gestures during gameplay.
On and off the court, it’s clear that Ja Morant has had issues–but he’s still one of the top point guards in the league today.
Over seven NBA seasons, Morant holds averages of 22.6 points, 4.7 rebounds, 7.4 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on 46/31/77 shooting splits (313 games).
Sacramento Kings viewed as favorite to trade for Ja Morant
