The Jacksonville Jaguars placed two-way star Travis Hunter on Injured Reserve just before the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9, so it's only fitting that they made a deal with the Silver and Black to bolster their wide receiver corps just before the trade deadline.
NFL insider Jordan Schults reports that the Jags are trading for Jakobi Meyers just hours. Around the same time, Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news that Jacksonville is sending a fourth and a sixth to Las Vegas in return for the seventh-year veteran.

An undrafted free agent in 2019, Meyers spent four seasons with the New England Patriots before following Josh McDaniels to the Raiders in 2023 on a three-year deal.
The Jaguars got a difference-maker in Jakobi Meyers
Meyer is in a contract year and made it clear before the regular season that he wanted an extension. However, Las Vegas wasn't willing to meet its demand, mostly because there's a new regime in place, one that inherited him, so it had no prior attachment to him.
Now, Meyers is reunited with wide receivers coach Edgar Bennett, who oversaw his best season with the Raiders in 2024: 87 receptions for 1,027 yards with four touchdowns. In 38 games with Las Vegas, the former North Carolina State Wolfpack has hauled in 191 yards for 2,186 yards with 12 touchdowns. On top of that, his drop rate is one of the lowest in the whole league dating back to 2020. Last year, it was 0.0 percent.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars lead the league in drops, so Meyers will most definitely give the passing game a massive boost and a reliable target.
The Jacksonville Jaguars lead the league in Drops with 11.3% of their throws being dropped.
Jakobi Meyers has a 2.5% drop rate since 2023.

Jakobi Meyers gives the Jaguars a playmaker at receiver
Although the Jaguars beat the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9, their depth at wide receiver was stretching thin. Aside from Travis Hunter landing on Injured reserve, Dyami Brown suffered a concussion, and Tim Patrick has missed two games with a knee injury.
That led the Jags to sign Austin Trammell just before the Raiders game and promote Tim Jones to the active roster via standard elevation. Brian Thomas Jr. and Parker Washington were Jacksonville's top receivers after Week 9, so having Jakobi Meyers in the fold certainly helps. After all, he can line up both in the slot and the boundaries. That kind of versatility will allow the coaching staff to get creative.
Ultimately, the Jaguars needed help at receiver, and they got the best possible option just before the trade deadline. Now, Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars have enough firepower to take on the Houston Texans in Week 10.
