Arne Slot makes major Florian Wirtz decision for Real Madrid Champions League clash

Arne Slot has made a major decision regarding Florian Wirtz before Liverpool's crunch Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The Reds shattered the British transfer record to lure the German star from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool over the summer. But it hasn't been the best of starts for Wirtz and he was snubbed from the starting side against Aston Villa over the weekend.

However, Slot has looked to trust the German as they welcome Real to Anfield on Tuesday evening. Wirtz has been named in the starting side as he replaces Cody Gakpo.

There's also a spot on the bench for Curtis Jones, who is returning from injury. Alexander Isak is the biggest absentee, with the Swedish striker still out injured.

And one fan shared on social media: "Wirtz played the majority of football at Leverkusen off the left. Hopefully he can bring the magic tonight."

"Need a big night from Wirtz tonight, these are the games we signed him for," a second admitted. While a third posted: "He's finally trying Wirtz on the left from the start instead of Gakpo!"

As a fourth said: "Wirtz on the left is going to fry Trent!"

And another added: "These are the games we signed Wirtz for. Simply has to deliver..."

Wirtz might have been hoping to go one-on-one with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is making his return to Merseyside on Tuesday evening after leaving his boyhood club in the summer.

Trent was booed by the Anfield crowd during his final game as a Liverpool player.

However, he showed his true colours ahead of the game, making his feelings clear with a one-word post on his Instagram story.

The full-back has posted a picture of himself arriving in England with Real and added a caption reading: “Home” with a location pin emoji.
