Morgan Rogers has become the poster-boy for Aston Villa’s increased ambition but has attracted interest from other top clubs in the process
Aston Villa are expected to send out a huge statement of intent to their rivals by securing the long-term future of in-demand midfield playmaker Morgan Rogers.
Rogers has started every league match this campaign and has been a real stalwart since arriving from Middlesbrough in January 2024. He’s also growing into an increasingly important player on the international stage after making seven of his nine appearances for the Three Lions in 2025 - leaving him firmly in contention to play and perhaps even start in next summer’s World Cup.
A report from TEAMtalk states that the Aston Villa star has attracted interest from as many as seven different clubs, but claims that Villa are in the advanced stages of discussions that will see Rogers extend his stay in the West Midlands to the summer of 2031, adding another 12 months onto his freshly-inked current deal which runs until 2030.
Aston Villa deliver real statement of intent to Chelsea and Tottenham
Birmingham World reported back in September that Aston Villa had begun contract discussions with Rogers over an extension to his contract, and it appears with the latest development that those talks are moving in the right direction.
Rogers has been a huge part of Aston Villa’s success under Unai Emery since joining and is regarded as one of the best young players in English football. He’s been linked with Chelsea, who have a reputation for signing young players, in the past - and he’s also attracted attention from Tottenham, who were heavily linked with the 23-year-old after a failed £60m swoop for Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White.
Villa successfully fended off interest for Rogers in the summer despite their PSR concerns, demonstrating a real statement of intent and ambition as last season’s Champions League quarter-finalists fight to get their way back into Europe’s elite competition. Rogers started this season quite slowly by his usual standards, and was criticised in particular for a lacklustre display against Bologna. However, he’s been imperative in the club’s recent turnaround, with two assists and a goal in his last five league outings.
How much is Morgan Rogers likely to earn if he signs a contract extension?
According to TEAMtalk, Rogers is currently estimated earning around £75,000 a week at Aston Villa after helping the club achieve European qualification in both seasons with the club.
This new deal, however, will see could see his pay packet increase from the speculated £75,000 a week into the £150,000 ball park, putting him among the top earners for his position in the league and one of the highest paid footballers at Villa Park. The new contract is also expected to include a release clause of around £100m - which will be most unwelcome news to clubs interested in securing his services - to try and outline his importance to Unai Emery’s team moving forward.
Rogers has scored 18 times and registered 19 assists in 84 appearances since arriving. He won the PFA Young Player of the Season after a terrific campaign last term, becoming the first Villa player to win the award since James Milner in 2009/10 and Ashley Young the year prior to that.
