Another week, another defensive embarrassment for the Dallas Cowboys.
Ho hum.
Somewhat lost on the Cowboys side of things in the team's Monday Night Football loss to the Arizona Cardinals was a topic that's now all the rage among Arizona's fan base.
The Cardinals very well have a quarterback controversy, whether or not head coach Jonathan Gannon wants to admit it.
The Cowboys defense did exactly what they've done all season long and made Jacoby Brissett look like an All-Pro selection. Except, to be fair to Brissett, you can actually argue that the Cardinals quarterback played a great game.
Despite some positives, Cowboys' defense laid another egg while igniting a QB firestorm in Arizona
But hey! At least the Cowboys didn't give up 30 points!
Brissett also accounted for 265 total yards, three total touchdowns and he did not turn the ball over once. Now, to give credit where credit is due, Dallas did sack Brissett five times on the night. There were times where that defensive line showed serious signs of life.
But, the real problem lies beyond the front four. Everybody knows it. That linebacker group and secondary, specifically, have made the leap well beyond tragic. We've seen this for weeks now, but to watch the Cardinals get a career night from Marvin Harrison Jr. was not the type of night Dallas' defense wanted to see.
Forget the Harrison breakout, though (even though he did absolutely cook DaRon Bland). The real story here is back at the quarterback position. Brissett has been stepping in for Kyler Murray while out with an injury, and now for the third-straight game, Brissett has played phenomenally.
Leave it to the Cowboys defense to give Brissett his third excellent game in a row and truly launch the Cardinals into a quarterback conundrum.
Despite Gannon telling reporters that "nothing has changed" on the quarterback front, everyone is talking about it. On the live broadcast, both Troy Aikman and Joe Buck agreed that there is no way the Cardinals can sit Brissett going forward.
Fans and media personalities all over social media agree, as well. It isn't hard to find a large backing for Brissett after what he's been able to do.
For now, Murray might be Gannon's starter. But, the Cardinals head coach won't soon forget just how good Brissett looked, on the road, at The Star. Matt Eberflus is trending the same exact direction as Kyler Murray is, in Arizona, right now.
Both of them appear to be odd men out. It's only a matter of time.
