Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the new betting favorite to win the NFL MVP award after his record-breaking display against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 9.

Allen catapulted to +180 to win his second straight MVP award following the Bills’ 28-21 victory, jumping Mahomes, now +350, in the odds. Prior to their Week 9 clash, Mahomes was the frontrunner to win his third MVP.

Against Kansas City, Allen completed 23-of-26 pass attempts, setting a new franchise record for single-game completion percentage (88.5 percent), as the Bills made it five straight regular season wins over their rivals dating back to 2021.

“Early on in the game, you know when you’re — I call it ‘slotted,’” Allen told reporters after the game.

“When the ball is coming out of your hand as good as you really want it. I had a really good feeling early on in this game.”

The result saw the Bills improve to 6-2 and the Chiefs drop to 5-4. If the playoffs began this week, Buffalo, who still trail the 7-2 Patriots in the AFC East, would be the No. 5 seed in the AFC, while Kansas City would miss out altogether.

After starting the season 0-2, the Chiefs turned things around with five wins in six weeks prior to losing to the Bills. Mahomes currently ranks third among quarterbacks with 2,349 passing yards while throwing 17 touchdowns and five interceptions on the year.

But the three-time Super Bowl champion had an uncharacteristic outing on Sunday evening in Buffalo, completing 15-of-34 passes for a career-worst 44.1 percent completion percentage. Mahomes finished with 250 passing yards with no touchdowns and an interception.

Allen and Mahomes are no strangers to the MVP race.

Mahomes, a two-time winner in 2018 and 2022, has finished in the top-seven five different times in his career. Allen, a first-time winner in 2024, has finished in the top-five four different times.

While regular season wins and individual awards have significance, nothing will matter more to Allen and the Bills than beating Kansas City in the playoffs.

The two have faced off in four of the last five postseasons, with the Chiefs winning all four times.
