Controversial No-Call That Doomed Jaylen Brown, Celtics Was Actually Correct

With less than 30 second remaining in the Boston Celtics-Utah Jazz game on Monday night, and with the Celts trailing by one, Jaylen Brown was dribbling against Jazz guard Keyontae George at the top of the key when George suddenly slipped on a wet spot on the parquet floor and fell down. Brown fell down almost immediately after, resulting in a lost ball turnover that led to a fastbreak bucket by Lauri Markkanen on the other end. Boston down three. Celtics fans were outraged, as it looked in real time like Brown had tripped over George, a clear foul in Boston’s favor. However, closer inspection of the replay shows that Brown slipped — not from any contact from George — but from Brown’s left foot slipping on the same wet spot on the court that took George down. Even with the benefit of replay, plenty of Celtics fans remained angry about the no-call and insisted that it was the incorrect decision from the refs. Jaylen Brown on the missed call: “You can't have a mistake like that — as an official at that point in the game, fourth quarter, minute left in the game or less, and the whole staff blows the fucking call, costs us a game. It’s unacceptable.” pic.twitter.com/g0NXLNB6X0— Noa Dalzell 🏀 (@NoaDalzell) November 4, 2025 The referee involved, Kevin Scott, later shared his stance on the no-call (per Forbes’ Bobby Krivitsky), asserting that both Brown and George slipped before any contact was made. The Celtics are now 3-5 on the young season and will host the Washington Wizards at TD Garden on Wednesday night. Boston will be looking to snap a two-game losing streak.
