The Buffalo Bills and the rest of the NFL are down to the wire on the NFL's trade deadline, and they could use some edge rusher help.
The Buffalo Bills are still basking in the glow of their 28-21 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at home on Sunday, November 2, but there’s still work to be done. The NFL’s trade deadline is Tuesday at 4 p.m. Eastern time, and teams have been scurrying to make moves before the deadline is up. One of the most talked-about teams when it comes to trade talk is the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills have a record of 6-2 following their win over the Chiefs, and they’re sitting at the No. 2 spot in the AFC, only behind the 7-2 New England Patriots. Buffalo wants to get a championship, so they need to get their team perfect if they want to beat the New England Patriots on December 14 and stay on top of the AFC.
Buffalo would be wise to pick up an edge rusher before the trade deadline is over. Having some talent on the defense will help the Bills in-game when quarterback Josh Allen is making touchdowns happen, but so is the other team. There’s one particular edge rusher who’s been popping up in discussions about the Bills, and he’s a solid talent.
Las Vegas Raiders Have Edge Rush Talent on the Trading Block
NFL expert Albert Breer of SI has put together a comprehensive tally of trade options after conducting research about who’s available and which NFL teams are looking to make moves. One of the names on there, when it comes to the Buffalo Bills, is edge rusher Tyree Wilson of the Las Vegas Raiders.
Wilson signed a four year contract worth $25,005,500 with the Raiders on May 12, 2023, according to Over the Cap. The contract also has $25,005,500 in guarantees.
“One interesting name on the trade block that I didn’t mention in my Friday notes is former No. 7 pick pick Tyree Wilson,” Breer notes in his feature. “He’s clearly not what Vegas hoped for in 2023, but there’s still some promise for the 25-year-old as a supersized edge who can bump inside and rush on passing downs.”
Options Other Than the Buffalo Bills
So, things aren’t working out for Wilson in Vegas, but they could work out for him in Buffalo. On top of Wilson, the Raiders are also open to the idea of trading another edge rusher in Malcolm Koonce, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. So, Buffalo would be wise to trade for at least one of the Raiders’ riches. The Raiders, of course, have star defensive end Maxx Crosby, so they can certainly part with some defensive talent.
Wilson is being talked about for other teams, too, including the Dallas Cowboys. On Tuesday, November 4, former Cowboys scout Bryan Broaddus predicted that Dallas would trade for Wilson to beef up their defense, which is a much-needed move.
“I bet you (the Cowboys) trade for a defensive end here. I thought it was going to be (Miami Dolphins DE Bradley) Chubb, but I think it’s going to be Wilson from the Raiders,” Broaddus said. “This is why: because Dallas does these things. They’ll go after former first-round picks, and a guy they had high on their draft board. … I could see them trading for Wilson with the Raiders, I absolutely could.”
When the clock strikes 4 p.m. on Tuesday, we’ll know exactly where the Buffalo Bills stand.
