**Dan Burn was handed the duty of facing the media ahead of Newcastle United's Champions League clash against Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, live on TNT Sports with a kick-off time of 8pm.**
The towering defender isn't one to shy away from being accountable and honest in interviews, so it was a bold move by Eddie Howe to throw the big man in front of the microphones after such a poor performance on Sunday.
It's safe to say that Dan Burn did not disappoint when asked about Sunday's defeat and the ramifications of it.
Sunday's loss at West Ham has been said by many to have been the worst performance under Eddie Howe, who celebrates four years as Newcastle manager on Saturday.

Burn was asked about the fallout from Sunday's defeat and how it could affect tomorrow's game in the Champions League, but the 6'7" Blyth-born legend hit the nail on the head (h/t [The Chronicle](https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-united-press-conference-live-32809089)).
> "Normally, when you have a bad game, one or two players can carry that but I think the whole team really had a bad day and let the team down."We haven't won in nine away games and it is something the manager is working on to understand why we haven't been performing away from home. The frustrating thing is we know we'll be up for the Champions League tomorrow at home, the fans will be buzzing and we need to find a replicate that away from home.

> "_Of course it is frustrating. It is very easy to get up for these games and the Champions League nights. These other games like Brentford on Sunday is where we need to earn our money. We've got lads in there that can do it and will do it but we are not putting the performances in away from home._
>
> "_Everybody knew in that changing room we let each other down. We are a tight-knit group and there isn't many changing rooms in my opinion in the way we demand from each other so it was frustrating we failed to put a performance in against a team that is struggling._"
Why can't Newcastle motivate themselves for the more routine games?
-------------------------------------------------------------------
As we mentioned earlier when talking about Anthony Gordon, it does seem to be far too easy to get into the mood for the big games, but Gordon, and by extension, the team, do seem to struggle to get into the mood when it's a 'regular' game.
We wouldn't be surprised if we see a solid performance from the lads tomorrow and possibly another Champions League win.
However, it's how we perform against Brentford on Sunday that's going to be under the most scrutiny.
