While the Green Bay Packers were certainly looking at potential deals as the November 4th trade deadline approached, nothing has materialized for general manager Brian Gutekunst. After weeks of speculation about adding a defensive back, bolstering the defensive line, or shipping out a wide receiver, the Packers will be working with their same group of players heading into the back half of the NFL season. While Packers fans don’t have anything new to get excited about, several other NFC contenders made moves today and are catching the headlines on NFL deadline day.

Green Bay Packers Remain Inactive At NFL Trade Deadline
It’s not as if the Green Bay Packers didn’t have needs that could have been theoretically fulfilled at the trade deadline – but the right deal did not ever materialize for general manager Brian Gutekunst.
For a team with Super Bowl aspirations, Green Bay has now passed up on their chance to bolster their roster. After much speculation was made about adding a cornerback to pair with Keisean Nixon, the Packers watched other NFC teams instead make their moves at the position. Roger McCreary was a name that the Packers were linked with, but the Los Angeles Rams were the ones to pull the trigger instead, making a deal with the Tennessee Titans last week.

In the aftermath of the Tucker Kraft injury, Packers fans were cooking up scenarios where the team could replace him with a player like David Njoku or Michael Mayer. However, it appears Luke Musgrave will be remaining as the team’s top tight end for the moment.
Fans will be glum about the fact that the Packers did not make a splash move, particularly after a disappointing home loss to the Carolina Panthers on Sunday. The vibes will be even worse as multiple other NFC contenders are celebrating moves of their own.
Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Bears Make Trade Deadline Additions
The Seattle Seahawks are one of four NFC teams with a better record than the Packers. Thanks to their impressive defense and explosive offense, the 6-2 Hawks are now feeling even better about their squad after making a trade for another wide receiver.
New Orleans Saints receiver Rashid Shaheed is on his way to the Pacific Northwest in exchange for draft compensation, giving Seattle QB Sam Darnold another perimeter threat. Head coach Mike Macdonald and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will be looking to incorporate Shaheed as a deep threat to their electric passing offense that is one of only a few teams ahead of Green Bay in passing yards per game.

With the Packers sitting at 5-2-1, the 5-3 Chicago Bears remain a threat to the NFC North crown. Packers fans saw their division rivals add another pass rusher ahead of the deadline, swapping draft selections with the Cleveland Browns and acquiring edge Joe Tryon-Shoyinka.

The Bears had Dayo Odeyingbo ruled out for the season after an injury and are now compensating for the loss by picking up Tryon-Shoyinka. A player with 15 career sacks, the former University of Washington player is now being counted on to help Chicago disrupt QBs like Jordan Love.
With the Bears offense continuing to grow in confidence, head coach Ben Johnson is hoping to ensure the defense can start trending upwards as well. The Bears and Packers have two matchups against each other still on the schedule.

While other NFC contenders are celebrating their own moves, the Packers are standing pat. Of course, their major trade addition already came in the form of Micah Parsons, but time will tell if Gutekunst missed his opportunity to maximize this team’s Super Bowl chances.
