The Jacksonville Jaguars’ sophomore kicker Cam Little etched his name into NFL history on Sunday when he nailed a 68-yard field goal to break the previous record of 66 yards, the same day Josh Allen cemented himself with a record of his own.

The strike came at the end of the first half against the Las Vegas Raiders and instantly made Little the owner of the longest successful field goal in regular-season NFL history, after the Bengals kicker nailed a 67-yarder before it was called off.

“I loved the way I hit it, and it turned out great,” Little said soon after. “I was going out there telling myself if I kick it straight enough to where my angle is, it’ll go in. I know I have the leg for it.”

Little had already connected on a 70-yard field goal in an August game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, albeit in a preseason context, so the mark didn’t count toward the official record books.

And though Little now holds the official record, he’s already looking ahead. “If the right conditions are right, you may think you can go back to 70 potentially, 72 in a game,” he told reporters.

He also acknowledged the competition: “It’s crazy how good guys are getting,” he said. “So you’ll probably see, I hate to say this, but you’ll probably see my record broken at some point this season.”

With that mindset, Little is aware that this moment might not last. The league’s kickers are booming from farther and farther out, and teams are adapting.

Last year, Little, drafted in the sixth round in 2024 out of Arkansas, made 27 of 29 field goal attempts for a 93.1 percent success rate, an exceptional mark for any kicker, let alone a rookie.

He was perfect from inside 40 yards, connecting on all 14 of his attempts from that range, and went 8-for-9 from 40 to 49 yards. Even from beyond 50 yards, he made five of six, with a long of 59. Those kicks, along with a perfect 27-for-27 mark on extra points, gave him 108 total points on the season.

This season, through eight games, Little has gone 13-for-17 on field goals, good for a 76.5% conversion rate. He’s been automatic from short and intermediate distances — 3-for-3 from 20 to 29 yards, 4-for-4 from 30 to 39, and 4-for-6 from 40 to 49.

From long range, he’s 2-for-4, including his record-breaking 68-yarder. He’s also 17-for-18 on extra points, adding 56 points to his total so far.

The Jaguars benefit greatly from his leg. A 68-yard range changes opponents’ calculus late in halves and adds a weapon that few franchises possess.

The Jaguars have improved markedly from a disappointing 2024 campaign, standing at 5-3 and sitting in second place in the AFC South as of Week 9. The team travels to Houston to take on the the 3-5 Texans on Sunday.
