The Dallas Cowboys’ season is on the brink, and they know it. A weak running game and an offense that stalls in the red zone have prompted the front office to seek a dramatic solution before the trade deadline. According to reports, that solution could be New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara. This potential trade is a high-stakes gamble that could either reignite their championship hopes or expose even deeper issues with the roster.
Could Alvin Kamara Be the Spark the Cowboys Desperately Need?

Right now, the Cowboys’ offense has become too predictable. Their rushing unit ranks a lowly 23rd in the NFL, and Tony Pollard’s struggles in short-yardage situations have left the play-action game toothless. Kamara represents an immediate schematic upgrade and a potential perfect fit. However, bringing him to Dallas isn’t straightforward, as Kamara has been vocal about his loyalty to New Orleans. In recent comments, he told NFL.com, “I don’t want to go anywhere. I love this city and this team.” Despite that sentiment, the Saints’ current rebuild and their 2–5 record have fueled speculation that the team could move him to recoup valuable draft assets. If the Saints are willing to listen, the Cowboys have both the motivation and the cap space to act.
Of course, a blockbuster trade like this comes with considerable risk. From a financial standpoint, Kamara’s $12.7 million cap hit for the 2025-26 season is significant, but Dallas could restructure existing contracts to make room. The bigger question involves his integration into the scheme. Adding Kamara midseason would demand swift adjustments from the offensive line and quarterback Dak Prescott, whose timing-based offense has struggled when plays break down. Yet, the reward could be massive, as Kamara’s presence would open up the field for Prescott, forcing defenses to respect both the screen game and the check-down options that Dallas currently lacks.
This is why many analysts believe the move is a necessary gamble. Pundits from Sports Illustrated and Yahoo Sports have both labeled Dallas a “logical landing spot” given their closing championship window and declining rushing production. As The Spun noted, “If the Cowboys are serious about saving their season, Kamara is the kind of playmaker they can’t afford to pass on.” Ultimately, adding a player of his caliber could redefine Dallas’s identity in the second half of the season. His addition would bring much-needed balance to an offense that has become too reliant on Prescott’s arm and provide a dynamic weapon capable of shifting momentum in close games.
