The Hammers striker has scored just three goals for the club since his £27 million transfer.
West Ham striker Niclas Fullkrug could exit the club in January according to his agent, bringing the end to an underwhelming stay at the London Stadium which has seen him produce just three goals in 27 appearances.
The 32-year-old’s time in the Premier League has been ravaged by injury. Fullkrug missed large parts of last season, having completed a £27 million move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2024, and is once again currently sidelined.
The striker hasn’t featured since the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal. West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo does hope that the player will be back in action after the upcoming international break.
West Ham star’s agent pushes for exit
However, Fullkrug’s time at West Ham could be limited. The striker’s agent, Thorsten Wirth, has explained that a move away from the club may be the best solution at this stage.
Speaking on the TOMorrow Business Podcast, Wirth said: "Looking back, we have to say the transfer didn’t work out. There’s no point in sugar-coating it."
When asked if the best thing for Fullkrug to do would be to leave English football, he added: "This always has to happen in cooperation with the club, but I believe it can make sense to change something there."
The striker still has more than two years left on his West Ham contract, which is not set to expire until the summer of 2028. His time in the Bundesliga was much more prolific than his exploits in the Premier League - Fullkrug has 56 goals in 157 appearances in the German top flight.
Niclas Fullkrug labelled ‘excellent’ after Euro 2024
There was hope that the player would find similar form at West Ham following a successful Euro 2024 showing for Germany. Fullkrug scored two goals in that tournament and earned plaudits.
At the time, Ally McCoist said: “I’m a fan of Niclas Fullkrug. Nothing wrong with an old-fashioned centre forward that can play. Every time I’ve seen Fullkrug, he’s impressed me. His game knowledge is good, his touch is excellent, he can finish, he’s aggressive … I think he’s a good player.”
On the podcast, Wirth referenced the Euros and shared his hope that his client could regain form. He said: "Time and again, at a point where you said, 'Now he’s coming, now he’ll show England that it wasn’t just a good European Championship and then nothing more will come of it', another injury came along, and that’s a shame. He had a bit of a negative momentum and also some bad luck."
