The latest Aston Villa injury news as four-time Europa League winner Unai Emery prepares his team for a home match against Maccabi Tel Aviv

Aston Villa resume UEFA Europa League action on Thursday evening against Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv. Unai Emery’s men are looking to respond to a shock defeat against Go Ahead Eagles in matchday three, in what is their first competitive meeting with Maccabi.

Villa, who progressed to the quarter-final of the Champions League last time out, are one of the favourites to go all the way in this competition. They enter the fixture in 10th position after previous wins over Bologna and Feyenoord. Meanwhile, their opponents are winless in the competition so far. They sit 32nd in the Europa League standings and have managed just one draw and two defeats from their three outings.

Ahead of kick-off, we take a look at the latest Aston Villa team news in a busy weekend, which also sees Unai Emery’s team take on Bournemouth at the weekend.

Youri Tieleman's injury latest

Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans was almost never out of the team last season as Emery’s side reached the FA Cup semi-final and Champions League quarter-final. However, the Belgian hasn’t featured since a 0-0 draw with Everton due to a calf problem. Last Friday, Emery said: "Youri is progressing well. He is going to start training, hopefully next week, with the group."

This makes him a doubt heading into the match with Maccabi Tel Aviv, with Bournemouth perhaps being a more likely match for his return. Tielemans was voted both Supporters' and Players' Player of the Season for Aston Villa last term. He’s made 103 appearances, scored eight and contributed 18 assists since completing his move from Leicester City.

Tyrone Mings add to Aston Villa’s injury woes

Emery said: "It is a hamstring injury. Normally, some weeks he will be out with an injury like that. Tomorrow we will test him and know exactly how many matches he will miss."

Mings joins Argentine central midfielder Emi Buendia on the sidelines. The former Norwich City man is pushing to be back for the weekend after sustaining an ankle injury. He’s been a key player for Villa with four goal contributions in the Premier League and a crucial strike against Feyenoord on the continent.

Buendia is pushing to return this week. However, the same cannot be said for young right-back Andres Garcia. The Spaniard, who hasn’t appeared for Aston Villa since a substitute appearance against Southampton in April, has been struggling with a muscle injury. He’s believed to be pushing for a return by December as he looks to provide competition to Matty Cash, who has started the campaign in excellent form.
