What Alexis Mac Allister did after his missed Liverpool opportunity in Champions League win vs Real Madrid

Alexis Mac Allister was spotted looking rather unhappy after his missed chance for Liverpool in their Champions League clash against Real Madrid.

The two sides were facing one another on Tuesday evening as the game ended 1-0 to Liverpool after a fine header from the Argentinian.

Most of Arne Slot’s men put in fairly impressive performances, with the Reds dominating Los Blancos for the vast majority of the game.

The tie didn’t, however, come without controversy as Liverpool were denied a free-kick early on in the tie despite Aurelien Tchouameni seeming to make his body bigger and blocking the ball with his hand.

There were many times when Liverpool could have opened up the scoring, with one of their best chances coming within the first 20 minutes when Florian Wirtz chose to press Alvaro Carreras, forcing him into making a mistake.

The German then won the ball back, passed it towards Dominik Szoboszlai, who then found Alexis Mac Allister on the edge of the box, with most thinking he’d curl it in, but instead, he skied it well over the crossbar.

Mac Allister is known for burying those sorts of chances, with Warnock now sharing what the Argentinian did.

The 2025-26 campaign has been no different either, with Mac Allister even getting whacked by Virgil van Dijk’s elbow in their game against Manchester United back in October.

Although he didn’t leave the pitch with any cuts or scrapes on Tuesday, he still got in amongst the game and even had one of the Reds’ best chances.

And now, while speaking on BBC Radio Five Live, Warnock has shared what he spotted Mac Allister doing after he skied the shot over the bar.

“Alexis Mac Allister is annoyed with himself – he slaps his thigh with disappointment,” he said.

Liverpool are a much better team with Alexis Mac Allister in their starting XI

Liverpool signed Wirtz in the summer to help out in the centre of the park, but at the moment, it feels like Slot’s midfield trio from last season are still the best option.

The German has been one of Liverpool’s most creative sparks, and although the stats don’t show it, he has become an integral part of Liverpool’s first-team squad.

However, the importance of Mac Allister can’t be brushed over, especially since it was his goal that won Liverpool the game.

The synergy between Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch is second-to-none, with all three players helping one another out if and when needed.

Even though Mac Allister has briefly been linked with an Anfield exit over the last few months, the last thing that Liverpool can do is move him on, especially after his recent performances.

The Reds’ recent performances certainly bode well for the future, especially since their next game is against Manchester City on Sunday.
