Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo has advised his side to sign Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez, but the Ecuador starlet could be on his way to Inter instead.

The 21-year-old has been making waves in Belgium over the past 18 months. Ordonez has established himself as one of Europe's most exciting up-and-coming centre-backs, and this hasn't gone unnoticed.

Compatriot Caicedo is said to be a big fan of his international teammate and reportedly told Chelsea to make a move for him earlier this year. Given that Enzo Maresca has demanded centre-back reinforcements, it would be sensible to look into signing Ordonez in January.

However, recent reports have claimed that the Blues will not target Ordonez, which has provided a window of opportunity for other suitors. As the youngster was already looking to leave Club Brugge in the summer, a January exit is likely.

In the summer, he was keen to join Marseille after Caicedo offered a ringing endorsement of ex-Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi, but the deal collapsed, leaving him stranded in Belgium.

Inter enter Caicedo

Last week, it was claimed that Liverpool had taken a liking to Ordonez and that they were plotting a €40 million January transfer. Now, the usually reliable Matteo Moretto has added Inter to the Ecuadorian's list of admirers.

Speaking on Fabrizio Romano's Italian YouTube channel, Moretto revealed that the Nerazzurri are 'closely monitoring' the young defender with a view to a transfer.

There could be some significant upheaval in Inter's defensive department in future windows, starting from January. Germany international Yann Bisseck feels that his lack of playing time is jeopardising his World Cup chances and is looking to leave.

Ordonez could be a winter replacement for Bisseck, but Inter may also have other holes to plug in the future. 37-year-old Francesco Acerbi and 33-year-old Stefan de Vrij are both out of contract in the summer, making the need for defensive reinforcements quite pressing.
