Manchester United are ready to let Jadon Sancho leave for nothing this summer - five years after paying £73million to bring him back to England from Borussia Dortmund.
In that time the winger has returned just 12 goals and is currently away on loan at Aston Villa. It is his third successive loan stint away having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford. United have the option to trigger a 12-month extension in his deal.
That would be common practice, allowing them to retain their asset and demand a fee for him. But those on the red half of Manchester are ready to bypass that opportunity and instead let him leave for free once the summer comes round.
Sancho's contract sees him pocked a mammoth £200,000-a-week, but United no longer want to fork out for those wages and will allow him to exit Old Trafford rather than risk paying his salary for another year if they can't find a buyer, reports TalkSport.
The former England star was linked with a move to Roma in the summer but eventually made his way to Villa Park. Sancho's demise began when he publicly called out Erik ten Hag on social media, which led to him being frozen out and then loaned away.
Even though Ruben Amorim is now at the helm opportunities have not come his way and Sancho was part of the so-called 'Bomb squad' in the summer. He was waiting for a route out of Manchester after Chelsea, where he was on loan last year, paid a penalty fee to avoid signing him permanently.
Sancho has not started a Premier League game for Villa this season and Unai Emery has handed the winger just 69 minutes in the top flight across three substitute appearances. In the recent win over Manchester City he was subbed on and then taken off later in the contest.

Back in the summer Amorim has claimed that the likes of Sancho would not be sold on the cheap and, if their valuation was not met, he would bring them back into the fold.
He said: "I know for a fact Omar (Barrada, CEO) and Jason (Wilcox, director of football) and the club have a number (price) for these players. If they don't reach that, they will be Manchester United players, no doubt about that. I understand other clubs are maybe waiting for the last minute, but they can have a surprise."
