After his Borussia Dortmund contract expired in 2024, Mats Hummels nearly joined Paris Saint-Germain.
The 36-year-old, who has since retired from football, reflected on the failed transfer ahead of Bayern’s 2-1 win over PSG on Tuesday.
"Of course, I have to be careful about what I say now. But yes, it’s true," Hummels said while working as a pundit for Amazon Prime.
"In the summer of 2024, toward the end of the transfer window, there was interest from both sides – so from them and from me. I don’t need to beat around the bush.
“It fell through because a squad change would have been necessary, but it didn’t happen. It almost went through, but in the end, it didn’t. Maybe, if things had gone differently, you could have seen me there.”
Hummels ultimately joined Roma for the 2024/25 season before retiring at its conclusion.
