Bucks’ Doc Rivers had words for Raptors amid physical defense on Giannis Antetokounmpo

After a thrilling win over the Indiana Pacers on the road on Monday, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks couldn’t find enough energy to beat the Toronto Raptors in the second game of a back-to-back road assignments on Tuesday night.

The Bucks suffered a 128-100 drubbing at the hands of Scottie Barnes and the Raps, who held Milwaukee to only 43.0 percent shooting from the field and just 28.9 percent from behind the arc.

Antetokounmpo put up 22 points on 9-for-14 shooting, but that’s far from his season average of 31.2 points per outing.

Toronto’s defense was all over the “Greek Freak,” with many noticing apparent non-fouls on Toronto when it comes to defending the future Basketball Hall of Famer.

Despite the Raptors’ physicality on the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player, Rivers still expressed his admiration for Toronto’s overall approach and execution in the game.

Although he insinuated that the Raptors had fresher legs going into the game, as Toronto did not play on Monday like his team did, Rivers made sure to give Toronto the credit it deserves for getting the job done.

I thought you know, we played last night. They didn’t. They were sitting here waiting for us,” Rivers told reporters in the postgame press conference (h/t The Athletic NBA Daily).

“More importantly, they just played the right way the entire game. So I actually think you watch their improvement from this year to last year. They’re doing a great job over there. Coaches really got those guys buying in and so give them a lot of credit.”

In any case, it’s on to the next one for Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, who dropped to 5-3. They cross the borders again, as Milwaukee hosts the Chicago Bulls on Friday at Fiserv Forum before taking on the Houston Rockets on Sunday, also at home.
