Max Dowman made yet more history against Slavia Prague as he became the youngest player ever to feature in the Champions League.
Having already become the second-youngest player in Premier League history when he featured against Leeds United in August, last week saw him become the youngest player to start a game for our men's first-team when he was named in the side that beat Brighton & Hove Albion in the League Cup.
But after being introduced from the bench in the 72nd minute during our 3-0 success in Prague, Max has become the first 15-year-old to play in the competition since it was rebranded in 1992.
Aged 15 years and 308 days, Max beat the previous record, which was set by Youssoufa Moukoko, who was 16 years and 18 days old when he played for Borussia Dortmund against Zenit St Petersburg in December 2020.

Another target in Max’s sights could be to become the youngest ever starter of a Champions League match, a feat that is currently owned by Barcelona and Spain superstar Lamine Yamal, who was 16 years and 83 days when he took to the field against Porto in October 2023. Therefore, if Max is selected to start a European game before this season’s quarter-finals, then he will beat Yamal’s feat.
Meanwhile, the youngest scorer in Champions League history is Ansu Fati, who was 17 years and 40 days old when he scored for Barca in a 2-1 win at the San Siro against Inter Milan, meaning Max has until February 2027 to break that particular record.
