Niclas Füllkrug has been warned it would be a risk leaving West Ham United at this stage, despite his miserable time at the club.
[SportBILD](https://sportbild.bild.de/) and BILD both cover the striker today. They believe there are too many risks for the West Ham striker, despite his current struggles.
A move away from West Ham in January has been floated this week for Füllkrug. That’s come about because his agent, Thorsten Wirth, [made it clear his client wants to leave](https://sportwitness.co.uk/player-informs-west-ham-of-january-transfer-desire-wants-to-throw-in-hammers-towel/) the London Stadium. Indeed, he admitted moving there had been a mistake in the first place.
A return to the Bundesliga, where he previously shone, would make sense. But SportBILD think otherwise. They say rather than focusing on a transfer, Füllkrug just needs to get fit and start scoring goals.
West Ham minutes best route to World Cup
----------------------------------------
They argue that there’s not many clubs in Germany who can guarantee him a starting spot. That’s a huge risk six months before the World Cup. As far as they’re concerned, it would be smarter to stay at West Ham, fight for his place and establish himself. That would give him a better chance of a World Cup spot than leaving.
BILD go further, looking at the various options for Füllkrug and why they don’t work. First up there’s former club Werder Bremen. They could do with a striker, but there’s been no interest as yet. If there was, it would only be on loan anyway.
Stuttgart would be interested, and indeed they are according to BILD’s information. But his salary, €4.5m per year, and susceptibility to injury could pose problems.
HSV Hamburg, meanwhile, are looking for solutions. But Füllkrug wouldn’t fit into their counter-attacking style. It’s the same for Frankfurt, who want a different profile than the one the West Ham man offers. He’d also be second fiddle at the club.
All in all, his options aren’t great at this moment in time. There’s plenty of time for that to change, but for now, staying at West Ham may be the smart move.
