Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was one of the busiest in the NFL leading up to the trade deadline, executing three trades in the last week and reportedly making additional calls for deals.
Some of the rumored big-name players he was targeting over the last few months were Micah Parsons, before he was traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers. Roseman also had reportedly made an offer for three first-round picks to try to pick up Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, but Cleveland was not willing to part ways with him.
Roseman eventually settled for cornerbacks Michael Carter II and Jaire Alexander, as well as edge rusher Jaelan Phillips, to round out the defense. For Roseman, he told the media it was easy for him just to go after the right players if it made sense for the Eagles.
"When there's opportunities to be aggressive for the right players, we're not gonna sit on our hands. You don't have great success without taking great risks. You can't be afraid to fail. To get to the top, you gotta be willing to take chances that may look controversial at times.. If there's ever a time we feel we can do something to make sure we have confetti on our heads, we're gonna go aggressive in that direction.. I won't live with regret with the way we operate around here."
Roseman was cooking at the trade deadline
It's as simple as Roseman did what he had to do to make the team good enough for a Super Bowl run. Carter and Alexander add depth to a secondary that is desperately needed. Adoree' Jackson and Kelee Ringo have struggled this season, and with Jackson, Jakorian Bennett, and Quinyon Mitchell also injured, depth at the position was greatly needed.
Phillips gives the Eagles the actual number one edge rusher the team needed. This group has had three players on IR and only 4.5 sacks to their name. They needed more help and got it in Phillips, who has three sacks and seven quarterback hits already this season.
This season alone, the Eagles have executed nine trades before and after the regular season. Roseman told the media that he picks his moments to make those critical moves.
"It's a mentality. We can always upgrade at every spot. We owe it to our fans, our players, and owner to always be looking.. It's hard to find talented young guys. However, we obviously don't give up picks just to give up picks.. We feel every move made sense."

While he's done making trades this year, Eagles fans hope he never loses that mindset, as most NFL teams wish their general managers were more like him.
