Wolves have been linked with the likes of Rob Edwards and Erik ten Hag as the search for a new manager takes centre stage
One of the early front-runners for the Wolves job has reportedly distanced himself from speculation linking him with the managerial vacancy at Molineux.
Earlier this week, The Athletic asserted that former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag was one of the options being considered by the Wolves board. The Dutchman’s name was mentioned alongside former Wolves boss Gary O’Neil, who has since pulled out of the race despite holding talks with senior figures at the club.
Other names detailed included Rob Edwards, Rui Borges and popular former striker Robbie Keane, who started his career with Wolves back in 1997 before venturing into management after spells with the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid. However, it appears unlikely that Ten Hag will remain on the list of options much longer.
Erik ten Hag not ‘keen’ on Wolves job
According to The Times, former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is not interested in becoming the next manager of Wolves. Ten Hag led United to a third place finish and a League Cup triumph in the 2022/23 campaign before finishing eighth in the division in his second term while lifting the FA Cup.
He was sacked in October last season but did make a brief and ill-fated return to management by taking charge of 2024 German champions Bayer Leverkusen. He took charge of just three matches in total - a 4-0 German Cup win over fourth-tier side SG Sonnenhof Grossaspach, a 2-1 loss to Hoffenheim and a 3-3 draw with Werder Bremen, making it the fastest sacking in Bundesliga history.
The former Ajax man is seeking a return to management but has reportedly informed a third party that Wolves is not his desired next destination.
Middlesbrough push to retain the services of Rob Edwards
Former Wolves defender and coach Rob Edwards admitted earlier this week that he understood why he’d been linked with the managerial vacancy based on his past experience with the club, but insisted before the Leicester City draw on Tuesday that he was fully focused on his job with Middlesbrough.
"I can understand it with my links to the club but my full focus is on this job here, which is a brilliant job, and trying to turn things around for a really big game against Leicester," he toldBBC Radio Tees. "It's hard for me to comment on speculation and anything other than Middlesbrough.”
The PA news agency adds that at this stage, their understanding is that there has still been no contact between the clubs and Edwards.
