When a Portuguese newspaper reports information about a Portuguese manager and a Premier League club then it’s pretty certain the source is people around the individual.
That’s even truer when the newspaper involved is Jornal de Notícias, who are not prone to plucking things from thin air. In an article in their Wednesday edition, JN report Bruno Lage is the ‘leading candidate’ for Wolves.
Wolves have just parted ways with Vitor Pereira and are looking for someone to rescue them from relegation. Currently bottom of the Premier League, things aren’t looking good for survival. That will have an impact on managers wanting the job.
Erik ten Hag has been linked, with Dutch sources backing interest up but insisting nothing is advanced at this stage.
Jornal de Notícias report, and make it clear it’s according to their own information, that Bruno Lage is the leading candidate and is currently ‘evaluating the possibility’.
Given this will have come from the manager’s camp, it’s either an indication he’s keen on a Wolves return or wants to get his name out there.
Benfica parted ways with Bruno Lage earlier this season to make way for Jose Mourinho.
